This week I was invited to dine at the newly open Smokebelly BBQ in Buckhead.   Smokbelly was created by a group of Southern men who brought us Tin Lizzy’s, The Big Ketch, Milton’s Cuisine and Cocktails, The Fur Bus and many more!   Their menu is a taste of the South as best described by them as “chef crafted ‘cue with soul warming fixings.”

I was there with my Atlanta Food Blogger Society and not only did I get to experience new foods but also made new friends.   The space is rustic with modern touches.   There are two large bars that flank the indoor dining and a stage off to one side for live music performances which takes place every Thursday to Saturday.  There’s also a large patio for outdoor dining and enough TVs to watch the game from any angle.IMG_8753

We had the pleasure of dining with one of the co-owners, Chris Hadermann, carefully selected our food for the best dining experience.   I started off with a Southern Pina, which is a spicy kick to the gut as it is made with mezcal, pineapple juice, jalapenos, agave syrup and lime juice; let’s just say I was warm on the inside!  FullSizeRender_1

For our Appetizer we dined on Pimento Cheese with house made crackers(awesome!), fried pork skin, blistered pepperdew peppers with goat cheese,  mini corndogs, fried pickled okra, smoked buffalo wings, cherry cola ribs, and a beet salad with a goat cheese dressing.   I enjoyed every bit of this course but my favorite items were the tender cherry cola ribs which had a hint of sweetness and the fried pickled okra which had a slight brininess that was simply perfect.    FullSizeRender

As though we weren’t stuffed enough, the main course was on the way.   Served family style we had the pitmaster platter which came with 4 different meats and 2 sides.   Juicy smoked turkey, tender 21 hour beef brisket, plump sausages and smoked pulled pork were accompanied by sweet potato soufflé, smoked kale, corn and edamame succotash and macaroni and cheese. IMG_8771

Stuffed from our first course I took a little of everything and boy was it good; my favorites being the sweet potato soufflé and the beef brisket.   We finished off the night with lots of laughter, conversation and more drinks.  Thanks to the owners and staff at Smokebelly BBQ for a wonderful dining experience.
