Bon Voyage

I am leaving tomorrow for a week away with family, a week in South Dakota (Yes, that’s not a typo).  As I prepare to leave, a feeling of guilty swept over me…I haven’t blogged in a week.  The chances of me blogging while I’m away are nil, zip, zilch…not going to happen!   While I enjoy a week with my nieces and nephews ( I have a brand new 2 week old nephew I’m going to meet for the first time)  I leave you a recipe that I’ve wanted to post for the last year!  Yes, I have 2 posts about this recipe that were never published.  I will update later with more information about Sorrel, but for now, just a recipe!

Sorrel

4 cups water

1/2 cup dried sorrel

1 cinnamon stick

10 cloves

1 inch peeled piece of ginger

sugar to taste

Add all ingredients in pot and bring to a boil.  Cover and simmer for 30 mins.  Remove from heat, remove all solids by straining.  Chill and serve over ice.

Say Ahhhh….

Take a splash into summer.

Strawberry Mint Lemonade

1 cup sugar

1 cup water

Juice of 10 lemons

2 cups chopped ripe strawberries

12 mint leaves

4 cups cold water

Make a simple syrup by bring 1 cup of sugar and 1 cup of water to a boil and stirring until sugar is dissolved.  Remove from heat and cool.  Blend lemon juice, strawberries and half of mint leaves in a blender until combined and no chunks of strawberries remain.  Strain the strawberry-lemon mixture into a pitcher; discard pulp.  Add 4 cups of cold water and all of the simple syrup.  Chop remaining mint leaves add to the pitcher.  Serve over ice and enjoy!

ade21This is a very simple and popular punch.  I have no clue who came up with the recipe but I got the original recipe from my sister in law Terri.  She served this at our crazy and out of control New Year’s Eve party.  I just took the recipe and modified it to suit my tastes.

Tropical Punch

1 gallon Hawaiian Punch Lemon Berry Squeeze

1  12 oz can Dole Frozen Pineapple Juice concentrate

1 half bottle of Bacardi O*

Combine ingredients and mix well.  You can adjust the alcohol to suit your taste.  For a kid friendly version just omit the Bacardi.

*I used the 750 ml bottle of Bacardi O
