I’m a food lover who loves to cook, bake, eat and explore new foods. I never go to the a restaurant and order the same thing twice, I just have to try something new. I started this blog to use it as an outlet until I start my own bakery/dessert cafe and to also post some Guyanese Recipes. From my own experience there a lack of Guyanese recipes on the web. Every time I’ve done a search I either come up empty handed or I end up with recipes that fail miserably. So I decided to do some of my own research and test and document some of my own recipes and to share them with you. My poor family and their expanding waistlines are the fortunate taste testers. I feed my goods to any and everybody who is willing to be my guinea pig. If you have any questions..please feel free to ask.
What is your favorite food?
I love too many things to have a favorite but a few do come to mind. Roti, baigan choka, Spaghetti with meat sauce, coconut shrimp, coconut rice, coconut…u get the idea.
What foods do u dislike?
I hate cauliflower…a white vegetable?!?! bleh
Where do you find inspiration for your blog?
I find inspiration any and everywhere, from the Internet, grocery store, cook books, my refrigerator and just my imagination.
What is your favorite kitchen gadget that you cannot do without?
Cuisinart Stand up Mixer without a question!!
I’ve noticed a lot of West Indian dishes on your blog, where are you from?
I am from Guyana, South America originally. Our cuisine is a mixture of Indian, Caribbean, English, Chinese and African foods. I came here as a child but I’m still very attached to my culture and food. Roti and Curry is my soul food.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Deligating the placement of sprinkles at my dessert cafe.

Hello Jehan,
My name is Rishma Lucknauth. I am an avid follower of your blog and a writer for Indo-Caribbean World Newspaper in Toronto, Ontario. I am working on a feature about Caribbean dishes that are exclusively West Indian–dhal puri for example. I want to explore the uniqueness of these dishes and learn about where their inspiration comes from and what their role in Caribbean cuisine is.
I would love to have your voice in the article as I admire your blog and the aesthetic beauty of your dishes. If you are interested, I would like to do a short e-mail interview where I ask just a few questions on Caribbean cooking. I will happily mention your website in the article as a way to acquaint my readers with your work.
My deadline is Sunday August 23rd. If you are available and would like to participate, please let me know as soon as you can by simply answering the below mentioned questions. Also, if can provide your last name that would be great.
The questions are as follows:
1. What is so distinct about Dhal puri in comparison to its sisters—roti and naan? Why is this dish uniquely Caribbean?
2. What does Caribbean cooking mean to you?
3. If allotted one word to describe Caribbean cuisine, what would you choose and why?Thank you so much for your help and keep blogging!
Regards,
Rishma -
Hi,
I am so glad that you have posted these recipes. My husband is from Guyana, South America and these are the foods that he grew up on. I have always wanted to get these recipes but all of his Aunts just throw things together without measuring. I made the cheese rolls the other night and they turned out great and were a big hit at our house. I can’t wait to try out the others.Thank you so much,

Hi,
I’m so glad I’ve found your blog as a fellow Guyanese (who also left at a very young age). I really enjoy cooking and I try to learn as many new recipes as I can from my mother who is an expert cook; unfortunately she does all the cooking and the rest of the family just eats!
It’s nice to know you’re sharing your recipes and beautiful photographs.
Thanks,
SB
